Gain Firefighter Experience in High School Through the Cadet Corps Program
Community Education
Antioch Fire Department sponsors an apprentice program for young men and women ages 14 - 18. The Cadet Corps provides young people interested in the fire service with an opportunity to experience volunteer firefighting service to the community. The program combines hands-on training with classroom instruction. Cadets receive basic instruction from experienced firefighter mentors. Antioch established the program to create opportunities for young adults to assist as interns and gain valuable knowledge in preparation for future fire service employment.
Antioch started the program in 2009 as the Explorer Post program, which was revamped in 2012 as a Cadet Corps to allow a more active role for apprentices. The training and experience of the program often allows Cadets to become a member of the Antioch Fire Department. Graduates of the Cadet program who qualify to become regular members receive sponsorship from the department for enrollment in the local fire academy.
Cadets participate in a controlled ride along experience with the Antioch Fire Department Duty Crew. During this experience, Cadets learn the emergency response service first-hand. Antioch expects all Cadets to demonstrate pride in the community they serve. Cadets also must help with community public events.
